The building surveyor’s office of Frankfurt commissioned Index Architects with the realization, planning, invitation to tender and supervision of building works for the monument designed by Russian artist Vadim Zakharov. Here, the difficulty is to reach the atmospheric realization of the artistic theme on the one hand, while on the other hand meeting with the technical regulations for security in public spaces and fullfilling the demands established by constructional engineering and physics. As far as its constructive valuation is concerned, the monument has to be viewed as a building. There is a tunnel for the maintenance („basement“) with an external entrance at the outside of the object. Because of security reasons, this maintenance-tunnel forms the only access to the glass cube. The cube is completely sealed and features a constant humidity. It is neither heated nor air-conditioned. Any installations inside of it were constructed to be resistant against deformation.
